EN 1.8550 (34CrAlNi7-10) Nitriding Steel
EN 1.8550 steel is an alloy steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Cited properties are appropriate for the quenched and tempered condition. 1.8550 is the EN numeric designation for this material. 34CrAlNi7-10 is the EN chemical designation.
It has a moderately low melting temperature among EN wrought alloy steels. In addition, it has a moderately high electrical conductivity and a moderately low thermal conductivity.
The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare EN 1.8550 steel to: EN wrought alloy steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means it's 50% of the highest, and so on.
1.8550 is intended for work at elevated temperatures in an environment that requires high sliding properties, corrosion, temperature, abrasion, and fatigue resistance. Steel with the addition of Nickel and Aluminum used in the energy, machinery, and automotive industries for large cross-sections elements in the heat treated condition. The products are used in the manufacture of screws, rods, cylinders, pistons, gears, extruders, and rings, which do not require welding.
Heat treatment of 34CrAlNi7-10, 1.8550:
Softening annealing at a temperature of 650 - 700 ºC
Hardening at 870 - 930 ºC for at least half an hour with cooling in water or oil Tempering at 580 - 700ºC for a minimum of 700 hour Nitriding at a temperature of 480 - 570ºC
