Alloy 616 AISI 422 SUH616 DIN X20CrMoWV12-1 (1.4935) Stainless Steel Round Bar
616 Stainless Steel(Alloy 616 / AISI 422, UNS S42200)
616 stainless steel, also known as AISI 422 or UNS S42200, is a heat- hardenable martensitic stainless steel reinforced by molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium. It can work continuously at temperatures up to 649- 650°C (1200°F) with outstanding high temperature strength, creep rupture resistance and anti oxidation performance.
After proper heat treatment, it achieves high tensile strength and hardness. Compared with ordinary martensitic stainless steel, its alloying element design greatly improves structural stability under long term high temperature service. It is magnetic and offers moderate corrosion resistance.
Typical applications cover steam & gas turbine blades, compressor parts, high temperature bolts, valve components, aerospace engine parts and high strength high-temperature fasteners in power generation equipment.
Main standards: ASTM A565, AMS 5655, JIS SUH616, DIN X20CrMoWV12-1 (1.4935).

Key Features
616 is a martensitic heat- treatable stainless steel. Alloyed with Mo, W and V, it delivers excellent high- temperature strength, creep - rupture resistance and oxidation resistance up to 650°C. It is magnetic with moderate corrosion resistance. High mechanical properties can be obtained after proper quenching and tempering treatment.
Typical Applications
- Gas & steam turbine blades
- High- temperature bolts, studs and fasteners
- Compressor and pump components
- High- temperature valve parts
- Power generation equipment components
- Aerospace engine structural parts
Detailed Photos

Corrosion resistance of 616 (AISI422 / SUH616) stainless steel is moderate. It performs well in dry air and super- heated steam service. However, it is not resistant to chloride, seawater, acid and alkali media. Pitting and rust will occur under humid condensing or salt- containing conditions. Its main advantage is high- temperature strength & creep resistance instead of corrosion resistance. Passivation treatment can slightly improve atmospheric rust resistance, but cannot resist chloride corrosion.
