The 30CrNiMo8 type of steel is made mostly for forming into wrought products. It is considered a structural steel and has medium hardenability yet it can accommodate heavy-duty components. It offers high elasticity and strength properties and when it is softened, the hardness level reaches a maximum of 248 HRB. It has a lot of resistance to various impacts and loads, but it is not all that great for welding. It also generally requires additional preheating before you can truly do anything with it.
Most companies that sell alloy steel products offer round bars, rolled or heat-treated, as well as other items made out of this steel.

Mechanical properties of 30CrNiMo8, 1.6580
Applications of this type of alloy steel include mostly components for automotive and mechanical engineering. Parts have to be designed for optimum toughness or strength to perform economically under severe dynamic stress, and that's what this type of steel offers its customers.
To forge the 30CrNiMo8 alloy steel, the forming temperature needs to be 1560 to 1920° Fahrenheit. Normalizing temperatures need to be 1560 to 1600° Fahrenheit, and hardening temperatures should be 1000 to 1250° Fahrenheit and followed by an oil quench. Alloy steel manufacturer facilities usually sell these in bars, and they have medium hardenability design to accommodate a variety of products. Manufacturers do a great job, though, of making sure you get just what you need in the end.
